What type of doctor manages your EM?

I'll have to get a referral as you know we can't go to specialists on our own! I'm sure it's a LONG wait. Pls let me know if you do get to see him if it was worth it. Did the person who recommended you get any relief??

Have had this damn disease since 95 and still have yet to be officially diagnosed...my gp has sent a request for me to see doctor at Sunnybrook Hospital in toronto that another sufferer recommended here...still waiting for an appt....he is a dermotologist, but is treating someone already with this disease so that is why I want to see him.

I amnot sure you need a referal as he sent me a note and said he would see me but wanted me to go through the clinic...so try calling and see what happens...they will tell you...

Hi,

I aslo live in Ontario (Sault Ste. Marie) and don't really have a doctor who knows anything about EM. Do you know what is the name of the doctor is at Sunnybrook? Have you had your appointment yet? I would really appreciate hearing about how things go with him and if he can help you. Keep us posted.

I just called the clinic and was told Dr. Walsh is not taking new patients. But to have my Dr. fax over a referral and he'll decide if he'll see me. So much for that help! Let me know if you have better luck!

Just got a call from Sunnybrook...got an appt. for the 6th of June....better than nothing I guess...at least I know he is already treating someone with this ailment so hopefully something will come out of it...over the years I have brought up EM to many doctors, you have to practically hit them over the head with it as most never heard of it...as you can see, have been searching for more than 16 years....it is visible in my feet, legs, arms, back, hands, face, most of my body....at one time only effected my feet, that lasted for about 8 yers...but now is progressing...get your family doctor to request a referall...only way to go it seems.

Great! Maybe he will see some new patients. I'm seeing my Dr. tomorrow for a referral. I'll let you know what happens.

Did you tell them what the referral was for????

Folks - since everyone gets copied on the thread comments, for details about doctors appointments and other things that are not of general interest, would you please discuss those details privaely and not include them here? We don’t need our email boxes cluttered up with appointment information that’s irrelevant to us.
Thanks!

Don, there is a way to opt out of following posts if you don’t want to get emails everytime somebody comments. On your email notification there is another link that allows you to stop following posts, you could then just log in whenever you feel like it and check the discussions that are of interest to you without the need for lots of emails.

Yes, I was going to suggest the same thing. What may not be interesting for one person may be so for another. For me, this was a very important piece of information. I now know of a doctor in Ontario who may be familiar with EM, something I have been trying to find for a quite some timee. Has this discussion happened privately, I would still be in the dark.

Actually, maybe we can find a happy medium? I was about to "opt out" of my own question with all of the back and forth about specific doctors, even though I'm truly interested in how others manage their pain.

Perhaps we can share our experiences, but take it private when it starts getting into specifics or following up?

Just a thought...

KC

I really do not see a problem with the way it is maybe someone will stumbly onto some relief,

They gave me an appt for OCT....so consider yourself lucky!!!!

I was referred to Dr. Alhusayen at the same clinic at Sunnybrook as Dr. Walsh. I saw him on June 6th. He was very nice and knowledgeable on EM. What a relief to have a Dr. not look at me like I'm crazy when I tell them what I think I have!!

He took lots of blood tests to rule out any underlying conditions and will talk about treatments at our next appt on July 4th.

Right now 10 mg of Elavil is working so he was happy with that.

How did your appt go with Dr. Walsh??

I have tried many doctors and no one is usefull... I have tried a medicine which has maked my case worse, by blocking my toes permanently. The others doctors want to give me dangereous medicine (like Plaquenil), without any garantee of success.

Therefore I have given up this kind of doctors, and try others. Acupuncture really help to unblock my permanent red toes, now I have almost no ones remaining.

For the general EM problem, I try a megnetic healer, who prescribe many powerful food supplements. He say me he will heal me, but it will take time.

My white blood cells were falling down for a few years, I was under the normal range and all doctors said me that it is very worrying and that there is no way to make it increase.

I tried the special food supplements he gave me, wait only one month, and do blood test: my white blood cells had increased for the first time ! (normal range between 4 and 10. I was 3,5 at beginning and were at 5 after that month). I will do another blood test in september, I am impatient to see better results! I also feel more comfortable in my body, and have more energy.

For the moment my EM is the same, but I feel already better and my healer say me it is the normal process.

Wait and see...

PS: I had no placebo effect. I was even very sceptical. But it seems to work ! I wait the rest

I agree with you to try alternative medicine. I've seen a Naturpath and acupuncturist too. The meds just try to treat one condition but alternative medicine helps the body to heal itself. I only take 10 mg Amitriptalyne and that helps me a lot. But for general healing and feeling well, I agree with your approach. It doesn't hurt and can help you overall to get better.

Good luck!

I would love to try alternative therapy but just can't afford it sadly. I also have pain sensitivity which cause lots of pain in other parts of my body and know that physio and accupuncture really worked for them, but couldn't afford to keep them up. I am reading a book at the minute called The Pain Control Workbook, there is alot of information on exercise and also mentions how alternative therapies can be benefitial. I haven't read it all but I think there is a section on self meditation and other calming/relaxing therapies.

I have already started doing the stretches and positive thinking (well most of the time I'm trying to be positive)
