Anyone attempt fasting?

I’m a dental hygienist so I’m familiar with the mercury argument. I did just have my 1 tiny amalgam removed, but it was more aesthetic than the mercury, but it was definitely a thought in my head. If anyone does want their fillings removed there’s a right and a wrong way. Most dentists do it wrong. I might try just a 2 day water only fast as a baby step and to see if I notice any changes. I think fasting will be much easier if you’ve already quit caffeine and sugars. Those are 2 powerful addictions. Coffee was not too bad to give up and now it doesn’t taste good to me. I replaced it with hot organic beef, chicken and vegetable broth. The sugar though has been a climb. It’s been 5 weeks and I’m still struggling. If more people can try even a small fast it would be great to share the experience and just maybe we will find a trend.

I’m on day 5 of fast. I did 2 cups of organic vegetable broth for first 3 days and I’ll now be switching to just juice for the next 3 days. Day 9-10 will be raw fruits/veggies only. My system is detoxing as I can smell myself, not roses. The icky achy feeling is years of toxins built up. This has not been a joy and I’m desperately craving cheesy greasy pizza, lucky charms and a large chef salad smothered in ranch. I can only hope this will be effective as my last flare up in my feet created a lot of pain, itching, raw and red skin. Don’t want another. I stopped taking my Nortryptoline but I don’t believe it was helping anyway.

Sky,
It takes immense drive and willpower to fast. I know it is hard. I had done a few fasts, about a week long, over the past several years. The funny thing will be this: (as you noted about the taste of coffee) you will probably find that cheesy, greasy pizza and lucky charms to be undesireable after the fast. The grease will make you almost ill. It is because the conditioning you have done in order for your body to handle that food will be undone. But that’s a good thing. You won’t crave it soon enough. Apples will be like candy, or they were to me, and you will find sweetness in broccoli and other veggies. It will pay off in the end. Just pay attention to your body and drink lots of water. I hope the discomfort, or “crisis”, passes soon. It all depends on how heavy a toxic load you began with.
If you experience gas and bloating, peppermint tea is great. Ginger helps with nausea. I am a huge fan of tea. There are many herbal teas that help with common ailments. It sounds like you have already done a bit of reading on fasting. Don’t stop now.
Good luck and God bless.

I just saw this after writing a very long reply to MLK saying that my EM is a result of my eating disorder and depriving myself of nutrition. This sounds like an AWFUL IDEA- I don't care what research is out there. Your electrolytes can get imbalanced and anyone who has restricted food for a little as five days is in danger of refeedign sydrome. I think this is a terrble idea. I destroyed my life not eating and also gave myself EM.

I hope no one will try this.

Jordy

Jordy, take some time and investigate fasting, particularly the master cleanse. Don’t be so quick to judge based on your anecdotal past. An eating disorder is not a fast. Not even close. What you believe created your EM did not created mine. So you know, the fast also includes lemon water, so there’s your electrolytes. My brother in law was able to eliminate all diabetes meds following this fast. People on this site have greatly reduced their EM following a fast. So maybe you SHOULD care what research is out there, and study it.

I have to agree with Jordy516. That fasting can be a very bad idea and for some can lead to further complications. This may be of help to some and cause harm to others so as always the best course of action is to talk with your doctor and they will be able to help you decide if it is right for you and if so how to do it safely.
Thank you JORDY516 for letting us know of your experiences.

I agree that individuals should not willy nilly go on a fast. But I don’t agree that absolutely no one should do it based on one persons anecdotal evidence. I just completed 10 days and I did not die. That doesn’t mean everyone should do it because I lived. Unfortunately I did not have the response I had hoped for but at the least I did it, and I did it correctly. I’ve never made it a half day without being desperate for food and when day 10 was complete, there was no gorging or great fan fare. I really wasn’t that hungry. The body is truly amazing when it has to adapt. I will try a low carb, low histamine diet and see, but I would never tell someone based on my experience alone to not give it a shot. Just be smart, have guidance, have a support group, and prepare yourself for the physical and mental battle.

I am sorry you didn’t get the response from the fast as you were hoping for. That must be hard after all of that work. I agree with you as well Sky that it shouldn’t be willy nilly done by anyone but with assistance from a doctor because this may or may not be the right thing for them. I just feel it’s important to let people know as I do with any type treatment the importance of not just doing this without help from your doctor. Typically medicine requires their assistance because you can’t write your own prescriptions but this is something some might try on their own simply because it is possible to accomplish without a prescription and help from a doctor. Just as we welcome opinions from those saying this might be helpful we have to also welcome those opinions that this may not be so helpful. In the end that is what this this place is for. … giving our opinions and things that have helped or hurt us in an effort to help each other. I hope you’re EM isn’t so bad today.
Take care
