Doctor in Canada that can help

I have a lot of medical connections but I had no luck getting Dr Scott Walsh to see me in the spring of 2014. He suggested the rheumatologists at Toronto Western Hospital . They weren't willing to see me either. I was finally able to see Dr Derek Haaland who is a rheumatologist in Barrie ON. He was very respectful and listened to me. He took my other medical conditions into consideration when deciding on treatment. He is very keen on keeping up with research and he is a professor at McMaster University in Hamilton ON.

Hi Dragonfly

I'm so sorry to read that you didn't have any luck getting Dr.Walsh to see you. Actually, I was surprised, although you didn't state a reason. I do have an appointment to see him, but it's not until NOVEMBER 2015. A long wait yes, but at least I have the appointment. The rheumatologists wouldn't see you either? What's up with that!!??? You were in Barrie, ON...that's my hometown now. What did it take for you to get an appt with him?

I'd appreciate whatever you might offer. Thanks in advance.

Sue you gave me his name in 2013 and I wrote to him and he agreed to see me, got my family doctor to write out a referral...have been his patient ever since...so thank you for your input....while no treatment has really releaved my symptoms we keep trying....thanks again....took me from 1995 to 2013 to get a diagnosis....am now on disability as walking is difficult for even short periods.

Dr Mark Tarnopolsky from McMaster Hospital was the first person to diagnose my son after seeing numerous specialists for 4 years. We've been handed off to Dr.Baker who is apparently more researched on EM.

Hi Mexicanrose

My family doctor did a referral to Dr Haaland. It was that simple. Hope this helps. I'm not sure about the other doctors I tried to see. Sometimes when their wait lists are really long they don't take on any new patients for a while. I may have been caught in one of those cycles. Nonetheless I got seen and investigated.

All the best in your quest for help.

Hi ConcernedMamma

I saw Dr Baker in October for a skin biopsy to look for small fibre neuropathy. I found his staff very pleasant to deal with. He was kind enough to do my follow up by teleconference. That was his only role in my care as my rheumatologist is currently managing things. I hope that your son does well under Dr Baker's care. All the best, Dragonfly
