? Treating Doctors in Toronto ON Canada

I am new to EM after months of searching for a diagnosis. My neurologist had no idea what I had. I appreciate all the helpful suggestions on the site. For the members who are from Toronto Ontario, would you be so kind as to tell me who are your treating specialists as I haven't been able to find anyone so far who is knowledge about this condition.

Hi dke/9307

Thanks for all of your helpful suggestions. I am not very savy when it comes to working these types of forums and sites. I have tried the friend thing with Mads so hope it works out.

I have a chillow pillow that I put my feet on at night and depending on the temperature I may have my hands and feet with no covers. This is so strange for me as I have been cold all my life. Walking or standing on the cold tile floors in my house is also helpful.

As I learn more about my condition and the things that help me I will post more.

Thanks for your warm welcome to this forum.

Hello! I'm also from Southern Ontario. I suggest you ask for a referral to Sunnybrook Hospital's dermatology clinic. There are a couple of doctors there who are familiar with, and treat, EM. Good luck!

Hi Dragonfly, sorry I can’t help with suggestions for specialists, I am in the uk and still haven’t found one! However, have you tried putting your feet right up above your head? I lie flat on the bed and put my feet on top of the headboard. Only needs 15 mins or so to calm them down, don’t do it for too long or you will get cramps! Worth a try anyway. The great thing about this site is not being alone and picking up suggestions from others. I’ve just ordered a chillow and am looking forward to using it. Good luck with your search for a doctor - my GP had never heard of EM so we all have an uphill battle to get professional help. Stardust x

Hi Dragonfly,
We had a recommendation once for Dr. Scott Walsh, dermatologist at the Sunnybrook hospital as suggested by Greenwood.

Good luck

As well as Dr. Walsh, mentioned above, Dr. Alhusayen at Sunnybrook has had EM patients and is good for following. Being Canada and all, you must have your doctor refer you so just give him or her a name and let them do the work.

Hi dragonfly

I am new to EM as well. I am looking for a MD as well in southern ontario. I called Sunnybrook derm clinic but only asked about Dr Scott Walsh. He is not taking patients. Have you found Dr alhusayen helpful? Do you know of any other doctors in Toronto or London or Hamilton. I am a couple of hours north of those cities.

Also where did you get your chillow pillow? Am very interested in that.

I had an MD order the ketamine/amitriptylline cream for me but didn't help.

Thanks for all the posts and info.

Hi Dragonfly.

There are no real specialists for EM in Toronto. What I did was interview potential Family Practitioners and chose one who was one to learning and spending time with me and willing to work with dr. Jay Cohen in California. It has worked out well. Unfortunately, she is on Maternity leave.

Cheers,

Dragica

I was was diagnosed with EM in July of this year.
I live in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and tried to get appts with Dr. Walsh and Dr. Alhusayen…they are not accepting appts until April 2021.
Has anyone seen any doctor in Toronto…that can help. My family doctor is trying her best to research someone who has an understanding.
My on aspirin and many topical creams…but only the aspirin has helped somewhat someday maybe. Gabapentin gave me side effects…had to stop it.
Can anyone please help.
Thank you so much for being here.
