EM with no pain, possible? Just hot/redness

It was both, I found I could not exercise at all due to the burning pain, the ankle pain was nothing compared but still prevented me from exercising, now i cannot even walk or stand let alone exercise.

But from the first time u got symptoms, how long did it take before u noticed pain?

My doctor has me on aspirin right now but I think she’s going to want to try gabapentin next. I’m considering some herbal treatments too.

Leosinho,
I have EM and i actually canceled my membership to the gym because it makes me flare soon as i start to work out to the point i have to stop so it was a waste of money for me. I don’t think that your symptoms seem like EM i have pain and swelling with mine and any increase in temp or even internally stressed or mad or anything really it sets off my EM. I hope you can find a doc that can give you some answers though best of luck.

So what else could i have then? Like i said my symptoms are like most of you, except pain and no flare during workout.

My toes gets very very red when its hot outside, and the veins its out. What else could it be?

Hey sorry haven’t been on in a bit lots going on. The red part and the buldging vein part sounds like EM, but when I become overheated or just mad I turn red and its followed by bee stinging pain almost that wont let up and the heat is so intense I just want to shove my affected body parts in ice water. Have you talked to anyone doc wise about whats going on with you. Im newly diagnosed so im no expert im still trying to figure out my own flares but keep pushing for answers and dig on the internet that’s what got me to the right doc and to finally a diagnosis after 2 years.

stay cool E

My symptoms were similar, no pain but redness and hot all the time. Though mine would get red with exercise too. It was like that for ten years before I was diagnosed by a Rheumatologist with EM last month. Symptoms seem to vary from person to person, so it is possible. But best to go to the doc to rule out other possibilities!

So u have had ur symptoms for 10 years with no pain?

Yes, it wasn’t until I moved to Texas and was facing 110 degree summers that I started having pain. I read another post that someone didn’t have pain for 30 years then it suddenly started. Pain isn’t a sure sign of EM according to my Rheumatologist. Heat and redness are though. Instead of pain I had excessive sweating which leaves me so dehydrated I get bad leg cramps. Now I have pain and dehydration/leg cramps. Can’t wait to move away!

Pain is a very subjective thing, so pain levels cannot be measured. I broke my hip when I was 16, nothing comes close to that pain. So it is possible I’ve had pain all this time, but because I’ve experienced so much worse I didn’t even notice (still have hip/back pain from that injury to this day). Whereas someone who has never experienced something like that might consider their EM pain higher. It also depends on the level of inflammation in the body. And because EM is triggered mostly by heat, how much heat you have to deal with will also vary your pain level. In short, pain isn’t a way to measure EM, and not everyone has it at the same time (if at all). I went into the doctor because the redness and heat was getting worse, then when waiting to see the rheumatologist the pain started. It was the middle of summer, so he put me on aspirin and told me to get outta dodge lol.

Where did u live before Texas then? It sounds like u got the pain as soon as u moved to summer-degrees temperatures.

I was living in florida before this. My symptoms are definitely environmental. I can handle up to 95 degrees without pain, but here in Texas where we are 6 inches from the sun and its still 100 degrees at 8 o’clock has absolutely been a nightmare. Luckily my job I can go fully remote and my boss is working on getting it so I can move.

Ah! But why dont u move back then, where u had painless EM?
