Yes Alina, I’ve asked her to experiment with the things you’ve suggested tonight, and I’ll have to wait and see what happens. But as of now, her symptoms are painful feet most of the time that get red/pink when she exercises/walks. Most of the time there’s just pain without the warmth or the redness.
Apparently the rheumatologist said that EM generally doesn’t occur in tropical countries, it occurs in cooler climates. I don’t think that’s true because I’ve not come across such a thing anywhere. I think he suspects it to be plantar fasciitis- though she has all the symptoms associated with plantar fasciitis except the redness of her feet when she exercises. He had suggested her to wear a sports shoe for 2 weeks and come back to him in case the pain persists.
No, neither the GP nor the rheumatologist were given any printouts from our side. GP diagnosed it on his own, while I think my GF told rheumatologist that she was diagnosed with EM. I wasn’t there because me and my girlfriend live about 500kilometres apart. It breaks my heart to see that she has to deal with this on her own.
@dkel: thanks dkel, though I already did
That breaks my heart to hear you two are separated! I am so sorry. Although you live far away from each other you are still here doing all you can to help her . Bless your heart Tyler. I don't personally believe in saying you can't have something because of where you live. Maybe long ago before Travel was so easy and People from all over the world procreated. We are all now exposed to and susceptible to most anything. I have never heard myself of EM being known in specific regions but even if it was that doesn't rule it out. Just because something is unlikely doesn't make it impossible!!!
That is a sore spot for me and probably for a lot of us. Some doctors only want to look in the neat little box of likely suspects and if you don't have those and still complain you must be crazy! I am grateful to have found a team of wonderful doctors that can think outside the box. This is so important because medically I live outside the box!
Maybe Your girlfriend can do what the doctor said with the shoes eve if it hurts and it sounds like it will. ( if not too bad)
Then when She goes in to see him she can bring some printouts of EM to help the doctor better understand what EM is.
I myself have joint pains all over my body that come and go and these are independent of burning and seem to be independent of temperature too sometimes. This I can not explain other than to help your girlfriend know she isn't alone.
I don't know if this joint pain is caused by the same thing causing my EM or if it is an independent condition yet to be diagnosed.
If the Rheumatologist doesn't come around at least into looking further into her symptoms and she isn't better from the planter fasciitis treatment maybe your girlfriend can bring a print out of some treatment options to her GP who has already impressed me for diagnosing it!!!!! Maybe they can use the known treatment options and work together to experiment and try to find which might help her. If he is willing to help it's OK he is a GP.
Please let me know if anything I mentioned in my last post was of any help to her.
Take care,
Alina
Thank you for the kind words Alina. Distance isn’t really a problem as we keep in touch a lot through out the day except for times like this I wish to be physically present there.
She doesn’t want to try the shoes because she says she feels good when air blows to her feet (especially in the morning).
Yes, the GP ordered a few tests and when they turned out negative he said its EM. And I’ve realised that getting a diagnosis itself is very difficult in EM cases. For the last week her pain has been less frequent and we don’t know for what reason(it could be the aspirin- she’d earlier discontinued using at after 2 times because it didn’t ease her pain, but the GP has suggested her to take aspirin two times a day for two weeks to see if it helps. To see if it really is helping remains to be seen in the coming weeks.) But she had a very bad episode of pain after she walked in the mall for a few hours last night.
Also, elevating her legs or applying wet clothe on her feet have had no effect.
Take care And warm regards
Tyler
Hi dkel, I hope it is PF and not EM in my girlfriend’s case though there is very little chance of that. She has the pain in both her feet and they become pink at the toes on exercising.
Yes you’re right in saying that there are lots of cases of EM occurring in tropical countries. We might find a new doctor, but the current GP who diagnosed her with EM is good enough for now. Her pain is very much under control and aspirin seems to be helping. But it has been only a week so we’ll have to wait and see.
Take care and warm regards
Tyler
Also topical creams like ketriplin(amitryptiline and ketamine) have had no effect.
