Diet to keep flares at bay..?

There is a stationary bike where you just use your hands in my gym… I do spin classes (cycling) 4 times a week. The first few months were agony but I don’t like being beaten so pushed and pushed. Now the flares aren’t as bad, i get pain, burning for about 5 minutes then I get the numbNess from both knees downwards for the rest of the class. I just use determination that I won’t let EM beat me just yet… My flare then subsides really quickly because I have a very cool shower. Most other exercises give me bad flares.
I really hope that you can get back outside walking at some point…!

omg yes. no caffenine, no salt, no sugar, NEVER MSG, NEVER RED MEAT, vitamin d supplement is most important for me because i take gabapentin, lots of water, and i try to eat everything raw and alive

I fell into the mistake of eating out yesterday and have been in almost constant flares since. Maybe it was the chilli that was on the chicken or the caffiene but I know I won't be making that mistake again... I will be far more careful of what I eat out next time. The trouble is you never know how much salt is in food or if spices have been added..

Will you said Vit D is important becasue you take Gabapentin, I take 3000mg daily but haven't been told to take certain supplements. I do take multivits + iron and also Vit C...

I done the same about 3yrs ago with great succes.Try also adding decaf green tea.Read up on the benefits of Alpha Lipioc Acid.I take 200mg 3 times a day.I can now do anything I want as long as I wear sandals.

I'm having trouble with bowel and bladder issues currently my dr thinks i have ditectivitis so awaiting appmt to see specialist, then my bladder is so so overactive that it is causing me no sleep tiredness irritablity and plain unsocialable so have just had to chart for 2 days so she can ce what is happening and what meds to help.

re foods for me high in sugars acids give me hell with burning aqnd pain at nite especially.also have found why itching head etc my hairshampoo is a fruity one and has grapefruit extract added with other fruits. my hairdresser is same and need to read what is in the shampoo.

There is a stationary hand bike at the VA where I get my healthcare, I can't use it because I'm not rehabbing anything and, I've never seen anyone use it ever. *sigh*

Alcohol definitely has been the most obvious thing that I noticed would induce a flare almost immediately… So, and this is something I have never admitted publicly before, it’s been very difficult for me, because I have been a high-functioning alcoholic for a while, and EM has actually been the unfortunate thing that has forced me to try and give it up… I’ve been weaning off, and I’m getting better; the tequila shots I did nightly were a hard habit to break, but they are not worth going through a flare…

Dementra, how very brave of you to admit being alcohol dependent. Alcohol is probably the easiest thing for me to give up as I didn't drink alot but I love spicy food. i have been flaring since Sunday night after eating some chillis at a chinese restaurant, I must remember that eating out is not a good idea... Keep up the good work

Thanks… It’s still a struggle for me at times… I’ve been fighting cravings since I decided to give it up, and have only caved a couple times- not a hard thing to do when you live with someone who also drinks a lot and have neighbors who are over several days a week and most weekends who are also heavy drinkers…

Wow, that must be realy hard when surrounded with drink, would your partner not consider helping to spport you by giving up or not drinking in front of you..?? You must be a really strong person :)

Well, even if he were to quit, unless I would make a general rule about no alcohol in my house, it wouldn't curb others- and at this point anyway, it's one conflict I don't feel like waging since my husband really enjoys their company on the weekends, and I enjoy playing cards once in awhile myself. I figure it's easier to fix myself then try to force the rest into something they don't want to do- probably be about as effective as my hounding of my mom when I was a teenager into stopping smoking- she was determined that she wasn't going to until she had to, and in 2001 after her heart attack and quadruple bypass, finally got the forcing that she couldn't argue against... That's what it takes for some people, unfortunately, just like this illness was finally the last straw for me since I've been fighting with myself about feelings that my drinking was starting to push the limit... I wouldn't say I'm necessarily that strong most of the time, really it's just stubbornness... LOL Most days I feel pretty weak actually... :)

I feel weak sometimes too, but I am such a stubborn person and this can be a good thing with this EM, and I’m sure it will be good for you too… Good luck
