I suffer from twitching / spasms in my knees and/or elbows which can keep me awake sometimes as much as my burning feet, wondered if anyone else has this and any suggestions. I have tried paracetamol with no effect. Thanks
Thank you. Fingers crossed things look up for you.
Hi joanne
Yes, I most definitly experience twitching and spasms as well, some night my nervous system is so sensitive I can hardly endure the sheets from my bed. I must say it has somewhat been less frequent since beginning treatment of pregabaline and trazodone
Good luck with this, I sometimes feel this syndrome is as bad or worse than my EM
Good luck
Thank you for the reply, good luck to you.
Joanne
Inflammation is believed to be a key factor when it comes to Restless Legs Syndrome.
Results of a scientific study were published in the January 14, 2012 issue of "Sleep Medicine Review Journal" that supports this theory. You can read that study here: http://www.rlcure.com/rls_study.pdf

The solution is a combination of a proper anti-inflammatory diet as well as introducing natural supplements and key vitamins & minerals into your daily life.
I used to get RLS and spasms but both got 90% better after coming off my medication. Look into all meds to see if any of them are causing these as a side effect.! Good luck.!
Thank you so much for your advice - will be looking into it with my dr.

I have had restless legs (and arms) for many years since my early teens (now 66) but the EM started 3 years ago so not related in my case. I have found these last few months since taking codeine as a painkiller and aid to sleep (as prescribed by my GP) that the restless legs have rarely bothered me, for which I am very grateful.

Ive had EM for years as well as small fiber neuropathy & peripheral neuropathy, and just recently have been developing restless leg syndrome sometimes at night, usually after a high sodium meal. And Im not a diabetic!!
Could it be medication that’s causing it. I do get heavy tingly pins and needles feeling in legs and arms and when it’s bad I liaten to and practice mindful mediation. This relaxes me enough to drop off to sleep. It also works for pain. I too have SFN, EM & MS so never know what symptoms are due to what condition.
I get the restless legs and it is blamed on my fibromyalgia. I find that taking Ibuprofen helps me. It is all blamed on stress, drinking caffeine before bed, getting excited before bed, etc, etc. !! In my case it is also a side effect of muscle relaxers or sleeping pills, I react just the opposite to them, making me all jittery or restless.
I noticed this the last few days, when I've been having a flare; I'd be on the verge of finally falling asleep and my arms and legs would twitch and wake me up.. Even my husband noticed it.. He said, "I've never seen you do that before. Let's talk to the doctor about that because that's not like you." At least I have a witness to this whole thing!
Also, someone asked recently "how do you keep your sanity with this?" I crochet; it kinda/sorta keeps me out of trouble.. Thinking maybe I should sell all these things I make and donate the money to EM research!
