The Ultimate Guide to Sex and Disability
by Dr. Miriam Kaufman, Cory Silverberg, and Fran Odette
ISBN- 1573443042
Excellent read which helps sexually active folk get back out there ;) Whilst not specifically related to inflammatory bowel disease, incontinence and ostomies are briefly mentioned. Says its the first complete sex guide for people who live with disabilities, pain, illness, or chronic conditions and they are not far wrong. The authors cover all aspects of sex and disability, including building a positive sexual self-image; positions to minimize stress and maximize pleasure; dealing with fatigue or pain during sex; finding partners and talking with partners about sex and disability; adapting sex toys etc. Particularly liked how visible and invisible disabilities are covered and that this book is nondiscriminatory ie: age, gender, or sexual orientation. Superb resources section in the back of the book- excellent for follow up reads,
When Sex Hurts
by Andrew Goldstein, MD, Caroline Pukall, PhD, and Irwin Goldstein, MD
ISBN-0738213985
A must read for women who experience pain upon sex and their partners.. Focus is on women’s sexual pain. Doesnt focus on IBD but most women with IBD suffer from painful sex, whether as a direct result of IBD or not. Authors do explain many conditions that cause pain on sex and what treatments are out there.
