I spent the last few days visiting family for Christmas and found that the carpet in their houses that is different then mine caused flare ups like you wouldn't believe. Putting on socks just made it worse but in some ways it was sometimes the worse of two evils. Has anyone else found this? The carpet in our house is flat so it doesn't irritate my feet but at the other houses they were either plush or wool. I was looking for ways to sit in areas that had no carpet but not be rude. Oh the life of living with EM.
My home has synthetic wool Berber carpet and I noticed over time that if I 'scuffed' my bare feet while walking over it, it would trigger symptoms. One coping mechanism that I used for a while was that whenever I walked on the carpet, I would put on a pair of slippers or flip-flops, just long enough to get to where I wanted to go and then would take them off. Over time, I was able to wean myself off of them and just walk across the carpet without scuffing my feet and creating symptoms.

I have carpet all through the house except the kitchen where I have laminate flooring. I can't walk on our carpet without flip flops on, but the kitchen floor is cool and so are the legs on the chairs! Christmas was an absolute nightmare. We had visitors to stay (not my choice), and as there are already 6 of us then plus 2 it was incredibly hard for me to sit in my usual position (legs up on sofa and a fan on full blast on my feet), plus the cooking and standing on my feet for hours. So sorry to go off topic. I would definitely go for something on your feet. Good luck.

Sandra, Never heard of different carpet having different results on the effects of EM. My wife has been living with the disease for 5-6 months now , however we have no carpets in our home.If I do come across any information that would be of use to u I will surely share it with u and the rest of the members. Take Care
Socks? I don’t understand how you can wear socks without getting burning as soon as you put them on ! I can’t wear socks or boots or even in my bare feet! It will likely be the heat between carpet and feet depending on how soft or flat the carpet is! I have wooden floors and as there cold it is good and as there flat. Wouldn’t like to have carpet floors! Could only imagine the pain it would bring.
