Sciatica and EM anyone?

Hi Guys,

does anyone get pain in hamstrings? .Ive started to get pain from my buttocks down both backs of legs to back of knees (hamstring area im informed). So painful now i can not even manage to sit down. Started suddenly at full throttle 2 weeks ago. I would describe it as a tight sore burning bruised throbbing . The pain follows the sciatic nerve line. Ive read sciatica can precede EM but not usually supersede it. Be interested to hear if anyone else experiences, or has any knowledge of this.

Comfortable night as always everyone

God bless

Hi mads!

I have gotten this on several occasions and what I found was the likely culprit for me was if I was tensing up a lot when in pain (especially with a lower leg/fEet flare!) the other if I was under a fan too long and was shivering a little, tensing from that as well. Could any of that fit what’s happening to you? Maybe tensing from a pretty bad flare? Clenching your bottom a bit with pain lol!

I am living in Sweden where nobody has Heard of EM....

Last year I was diagnosed with spinal stenosis.affecting my lumbar nerves......I have had EM for 3 years now...that is long before the my lumbar symptoms occured....

Does anyone know if an operation for spinal stenosis would cure the EM????

Dear Goran,

Im so sad to hear you have EM and spinal stenosis........... how very difficult for you.

Whilst some symptoms may be manageable to varying degrees for certain EM'ers no 'known' cure exists.

Based on this premise,an operation for spinal stenosis would not benefit your EM... However I am not your specialist - and you may have other underlying issues involved.

My lumbar /hamstring problems have just recently started - could it be sciatica or just another weird and wonderful EM related effect? ((((((((Lauren)))))))))) mentions tensing during flares - she may have a point. We do tend to carry ourselves differently especially those of us with impaired mobility. And yes Lauren I too have become a serious 'bottom clencher' ! Maybe we should do a post on that pain management tactic LMAO!

If you would like any information or research on EM please let me know .

Comfortable evening everyone

God bless

I had sciatic pain for a few months last year. It didn't sound much like yours, though. Mine felt like electric zaps, or sharp - like bumping a spot where you have a glass splinter in your skin, and it would happen over and over, more toward the lower hip area, and mostly just on one side. I also had a new pain in the big toe on the same side during that time. My lower back X-rays were normal.

Hi Mads! Thank you so much for your post, I did have sciatica for nearly 3 years preceeding my EM it was so bad I couldn’t sit for 2 years!!! Had to stop work, eat meals standing… Then the EM started, I always wondered if there was any relation between the two but doctors ( rheumatologist, physialogist, neurologist, dermatologist…) never seemed to put the 2 together…
Hope you get better soon, if it helps any, I never thought my sciatica would get better but it did!! (Osteopathy is what did it for me…) God Bless!

They have steroid shots given by pain specialists that really help. I recently had 4 shots and it was given in the Sacrum that was pressing on nerves. It has relieved a lot of my burning feet but not totally. At least I can walk again. God bless.

Hi

I have what I thought was sciatica but ended up being bursitis. but basically similar symptoms. The doctor prescribed anti-inflammatory drugs and physical therapy...and I am doing better. I do have EM but there is no correlation in my case.

It will calm down just give it about a month or two. Takes time!

Good luck-

I had an Anterior Cervical Disectomy and Fusion of 2 discs one year ago for moderately severe spinal stenosis. Although it diminished the pain somewhat that I was having in my right arm and right leg the EM remained. It was my hope that the surgery would fix the EM. It is very late here if you want further details I would be happy to supply them! I just need to get some rest. The EM was hot topic between myself and the neurosurgeon!
