Swelling bulging veins

I suffer from swelling of veins during attacks of EM. does any one know if these veins can swell anywhere inside the body too. my crps levels are always high showing I having internal inflammation. I am trying to find out why I having these funny turns/seizures any info would really help. I had MRI fri and EEG in morning

I assume you haven’t had the results of your MRI or EEG yet? I too have bulging veins and my crps are always high, but that was put down to RA and previously I also had over growth of bacteria in my bowel. That’s the problem with high crps is that it can be any inflammation including any bacterial infection, at least that’s what I have been told by doctors!

No results yet. I had a lot of blood took on Friday I also had my MRI scan of brain. I had a MRI done a few year back as could hear a whosing noise in my ear. I drove me insane. They found a large swollen vein close to eardrum and was in fact blood I could hear going through the vein. Again after EM attack and a funny turn my eye was blood shot. I could feel the pressure behind eye. I am having my EEG in morning is to why I still awake now. I worried sick. I can not explain what happens, but I become very confused words jumbled my head feels like they is pressure. I feel so tired then from what my partner mam and friends told me. My face seems to drop on one side I fall asleep. Sometimes I can hear muffles of speech but on one occasion my partner found me toataly un-responsive and phoned a ambulance I had blue lips. This has been a on going thing for just under a year and had maybe 10 funny turns now. Last one on March the 6th. God only knows what’s going on and to why but I praying its medication or something to be the cause. Thank you for replying I will let all know the results.

Interesting the noise in your ear!The reason is that I am quite deaf in my left ear, but very often hear noises and when they gave me a hearing aid it drove me mad as all I could hear was a noise can’t describe it very odd I suppose it sounded like a motor running that’s about the nearest I can say. I went back to them and the audiologist said he thought I had a perforated ear drum and was sent to an ENT bloke who just said I hadn’t and that was it. I can hear with my right ear and so as there were other things going on I just gave up on it and never found out what it was.

I sometimes get the whoshing sounds in my ears, it is during a EM flare, along with bulging veins in arms and legs. I always contributed the whoshing to high blood pressure…

Thanks for replying Jon. I have to admit throughout the 3 years all this has. Been going on, EM AUtonomatic Nerve problems ect ect. My blood pressure has always been stable as far as I am aware. Do you think I could relate swelling of the veins around head at all? I hoping that none of this disease is related to my funny turns/seizures or what ever they are?

Hello ajcb bella.

I am sorry you have to go through this. I know it can be scary. I too get the bulging veins with my flares and there is this painful intense pressure when it happens and it feels as if my hands, feet ,knees and rarely head will explode! At first I worried this could actually happen but it has been about 5 years and it hasn't happened yet and I haven't heard of anyone that has had theses veins burst so I no longer worry about this. I figure if could happen it probably would have happened by now. Like you I get painful blood shot eyes with facial flares. My eye doctor just prescribed false tears to use when this happens/ surprisingly this does help a little. It is probably because when I flare my skin/ eyes get so hot that it dries ut my skin eyes. I can have crazy dry skin while flaring and it looks as if I have aged 20 years but when the flare in done my skin goes back to normal.

I haven't experienced the ear sounds but it wouldn't surprise me if this is was due to EM. I am not saying it is just that I wouldn't be surprised. It seems to be able to happen just about anywhere based on my experiences alone not to mention hearing from others here. That said there could also be an underlying condition that is causing your symptoms including your EM so further testing like you are doing is important.

Please let us know what you find out regarding your test results.

Take care

These days mine aren't flares, it's just there all the time, unless I have my feet in my bowl of cold water! I started with flares and not very often, but that was many years ago, probably about 10 now. It just seems to go worse and worse all the time. I am annoyed with doctors ignoring me for so long, as whatever it's due to might have been fixed by now as I am sure mine isn't primary I am sure it's due to one or all of my other health conditions. Last night was the worst night I have ever had for some reason. Even with my ceiling fan on, I was waking all night long with the pain. I just hope that the dermatologist I am seeing tomorrow has some answers.

Oh I so feel for you. I hope you get answers too. I am so glad my doctor told me about this forum, as reading other people stories and seeing that they is pain and suffering too. Makes me feel I not alone. I feel so much better. It been hard to except the fact I have this disease. I was so angry and negative. Realising that being that way also wouldn’t give me answers, I slowly coming to terms with it. Hope you feel better and pain free soon

Thank you Alina for your reply as every bit of help and advice is appreciated. had Mri EEG &unloads done now just waiting for results. I am meant to wear these horrible thick pressure stockings on my legs due to thread veins swelling and bursting during attacks of EM, but wearing them in warm weather causes problems as makes my legs to hot. The pressure was behind my eye most of the day by night time I ended up in A&E after a funny turn. When I opened right eye it was bloodshot and stayed like that for days. I already use -tears for dry eyes. I do think your right. I believe they is a lot more going on than just the EM. I think they were ruling out any swellings in or around brain. causing any insites to why I keep having these seizure things. They were thinking TIA at 1st. Oh god only knows what they doing or what they saying. All I know is I hope I don't have one again. It's been a while now. 6th March last one. hopefully will get there in the end thank you ever so much for your advice thoughts ideas as I need the support and help..

This is so important to mention, glad you brought it up ! : ) I have read stats that +/- 30% of people with EM are affected as well in their organs, and vascular system. I have had EM for about 8 yrs now and went in for a cosmetic treatment of Varicose veins. After doing a leg ultrasound, they determined my vein going into my groin was 14mm and should have been 3-4. So, they sent me in for a Cat Scan from my chest to feet and determined I had rerouted collateral veins all over the place. My kidneys are perfect, liver enzyme GGT high, do to inflammation. (possibly internal infection at the time). My abdominal artery was squished and, as well as the left renal ventricle. All this blew my mind. The specialist thought I've been re-routing my veins for at least 15 years! I am similar to Nut Cracker Syndrome, which does the same thing. My stomach had been slightly poochy and I had thought it was unexplained weight gain. In my belly area are all capillaries, veins, etc. that have kept my organs safe, and functioning this whole time. Which, to me, means that the body does that all over, it explains the ears going kind-a shut, it explains the headaches people get, I couldn't think of a symptom it didn't account for on me personally. It's considered a "Vascular Compression Disorder". Anyway girlie, hope this helps.

You have made me feel like a angel that can spread my wings and fly back to doctors with added info. My veins swell so large that I am un able to move/bend limb during em flare. Thank yo for sharing this information with me I appreciate every bit of help I can get x
